About the event
I am unsure if this technique actually dates back to the vikings or not. I know they used wire that they twisted together to form cuffs and torques but whether they created this actual weave or knit I have been unable to find out. There was a "Trichinopoly Chain" found in an 9th century hoard in Scoltand but the weave is different. I do know that it is a great skill to have and the pieces made using this skill have an ancient and artisan feel to them.
Viking Knit or Weave is a simple technique that produces a highly intricate "chain" I have put that in inverted commas because it does not feel like a chain more like a cord or braid. Suddenly wire has become a textile and I Love it.
You will be taught how to use a simple acrylic rod and draw-plate to produce stunning results. The final piece will be a necklace with animal terminals a real viking show piece.
